Micro Caps and StockTwits (cont’d)

  • August 27th, 2009

Over the past week we have noticed an increase in the volume of micro caps on the stream. This has also increased noise and cheerleading of stocks trading under $1.

At StockTwits, our goal is to maintain a stream containing high quality actionable information. Further, we will not allow some of our novice community members to be influenced by promotion.

This morning we started politely asking those that were trading most of these stocks to refrain from mentioning them on the stream. We will only allow former large caps or widely followed stocks that have declined significantly over the past year.

Unfortunately, we will continue to warn and may ultimately be inclined to block users. We realize this will not be popular to some but will stand by the decision.

If you feel you have been unfairly blocked, please email stein at stocktwits dot com.
