How to Use StockTwits: The Friends Stream

During the trading day, there is so much information and ideas coming at you on the stream, that, it may be overwhelming.  Some may find it helpful to filter through all the information and put together a stream of what you consider to be valuable, and this can be accomplished with the Friends Stream.

Below I will walk through how to set up and access the Friends Stream.

Setting up the Friends Stream

  • Next, you want to match up traders with your time-frame, risk tolerance, and trading frequency.  If you are someone who doesn’t have the time to daytrade you may not want to include someone like @TodayTrader, @WeeklyTA, or @AnneMarie2006 in your group of informed traders.  This is not because they aren’t awesome traders (they are!), but they often hold positions for a short period of time and sometimes go both long and short the same position in the course of a day.  Instead, you may be better suited following someone like @ToddSullivan who usually holds a position for a bit longer than a day.
  • Once you have identified what type of trading style you are comfortable with and found good traders that match up with that style and simply follow them on Twitter and they will appear in your Friends Stream

Accessing the Friends Stream

From StockTwits

From Tweetdeck

  • Log In using your Twitter credentials
  • Select the “$” button, located in the upper left-hand corner
  • Click on the “Friends” button.
  • A StockTwits “Friends” stream should appear.

You will also be able to access this from StockTwits Desktop (as well as tons of other great features) when it launches in September.
