This has been a requested feature since we started StockTwits, and I’m excited to announce that as of today you can now Mute users on iOS, Android and on Stocktwits.com. Here’s how it works and why it is different from Block.
When you block a user, you no longer see their messages, profile in search results, and they can’t see you either. This is great to use for people who are behaving badly or engage in harassment, and they will know you have blocked them because they can no longer access your profile.
Muting is for a different situation, mainly to clean up your streams from people who you follow, or don’t follow, removing their messages from ticker pages and stream pages but without them knowing. They can still view your profile, and you will still see when they mention you if you are following them (although you won’t get push notifications on mobile anymore). Mute is useful for people who aren’t malicious but you no longer want to see in your streams, sort of like an ‘unsubscribe’ option. Muting someone doesn’t unfollow them, and they will not be notified or aware that you are Muting them.
How to Mute on Desktop
How to Unmute Users
Mobile apps: Search for the user and go to their profile. Then tap the ‘…’ option and you’ll see ‘Unmute @user’.
Desktop site: Go into Settings. On the left side, click ‘Muted’. You’ll see all the users you are muting and can unmute them there.
